How Can I Be Superhuman?

Description: The following is a short prose I wrote that I displayed in my classroom on poster board. The students referenced it often and seemed very inspired by it. Free to use!

How Can I Be Superhuman?

Being Superhuman is not about straight A’s or getting into the very best college. It is not about giving change to a homeless person or scoring the winning touchdown.

Being Superhuman is what happens when the tough get going. Sometimes, we become Superhuman by doing what’s best for us and right for others – even when we don't feel up to it. Sometimes, we become Superhuman by learning to transform anger into motivation. We can become Superhuman by doing the exact opposite of what it seems like everyone else is doing. We can become Superhuman by saying we’re sorry, or forgiving. We become Superhuman by turning what everyone else considers stumbling blocks into stepping stones. We see through the thickest walls with our x-ray vision, and we fly above everyone else stuck in traffic down below.

What is Superhuman for you? What is something you never thought you could do? What can YOU do to love someone else – perhaps, someone who is difficult to love – for only a moment … just long enough to become a Superhuman Hero?
